Are You Making These 5 Restaurant Social Media Mistakes?

Restaurant Social Media

Social media can help to fill the seats in your restaurant.

There is no denying that social media is one of the most powerful marketing tools.

When used correctly, social media can skyrocket your success and really launch your business to the next level. Honestly, it can take your restaurant from a run-of-the-mill eatery to the hottest hang out in your location.

However, the key is to use restaurant social media correctly.

Believe it or not, there are quite a few pitfalls that are associated with using social media channels to promote a restaurant. If you’re guilty of them, you could really be impacting the success of your business.

Here is a look at 5 of the most common restaurant social media mistakes.

1. Mixing Business with Pleasure

There is nothing wrong with using Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest for your own personal interests, but don’t confuse using your business accounts on these channels with your personal use. (tweet this)

Posting inappropriate content that has nothing to do with your business could confuse your followers, or worse – make them stop following you.

2. Not Posting Often Enough

Have you created a social media account to promote your restaurant, but you haven’t visited the page in say, a good long while? If you aren’t posting to your accounts, they really aren’t doing you any good. Your followers won’t see your updates, and you won’t attract any new followers.

In short, there really isn’t any point in using social media to promote your restaurant if you aren’t using it to promote your restaurant (does that make sense?)

3. Posting Too Much

Restaurant Social Media Tips

Using social media incorrectly can lead to more empty seats than filled seats.

While not posting enough to your accounts is a no-no; posting too much can also be a negative. It’s great to want to be so active, but if you are adding updates on a constant basis, you may be over-saturating your customers.

Have you ever seen a commercial on TV way too many times? After a while, it loses its effect; or you just switch the channels when it comes on. The same idea applies to too much posting on social media channels.

4. Being Unresponsive

One of the biggest benefits of social media is that it allows you to interact with your customers on a more personal level. This personal exchange helps to make you and your business more real, which can really help to increase your success.

If you aren’t interacting with your customers, they may feel like you are giving them cold shoulder. For example, if someone posts a comment (either positive or negative) and you don’t respond to it, you could really leave a bad taste in that person’s mouth, which could have a big (negative) impact on your success.

5. Posting at the Wrong Time

Believe it or not, the time that you post can have a big impact on your success with your social media campaign. Posting at times when most of your followers aren’t online may make your content invisible, which really proves to be a fruitless effort. (tweet this)

These are some of the most common mistakes that restaurant owners can make when using social media to promote their business. Are you guilty of committing any of them?
